South Africa: Job Trends in the Retailing Sector (October 2023 - January 2024)

  • The number of active job postings in the Retailing sector of South Africa increased by 4.23% MoM, and decreased by 48.88% since October 2023, reaching 320 active job postings in January 2024.

  • A total of 338 new jobs were posted in January 2024, witnessing an increase of 69% as compared to the previous month. On the other hand, 325 jobs were closed in the same month implying that companies took out 26.95% more jobs than the month earlier. For the period from October 2023 to January 2024, the number of new jobs posted decreased by 44.68% and the number of jobs closed decreased by 63.28%

  • In terms of Compound Monthly Growth Rate (CMGR) between October 2023 and January 2024, the number of new jobs posted observed a negative growth rate of 17.91%, the number of active job postings observed a negative growth rate of 20.04% and the number of jobs closed observed a negative growth rate of 28.39%. Between October 2023 and January 2024, the average number of jobs posted stood at 351, number of jobs closed stood at 496 and number of active jobs stood at 404.
