A total of 94 Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Technology, Media and Telecom of the Middle East and Africa region, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $30,791.4 million. In the LTM period, September 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $6,089.8 million, resulting in an average deal value of $609.0 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of January 2022 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 10 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $224.7 million during that month.
Of the 94 deals, the deal secured between Intel Corp and Tower Semiconductor Ltd, was the largest M&A deal in the Middle East and Africa Technology, Media and Telecom sector, which was valued at $5,400.0 million and was completed on February 15, 2022. The second-largest deal was between iWebb Inc and Tingo Mobile Limited, while the third-largest deal was between Vodacom Group Ltd and Vodafone Egypt Telecommunications SAE. The iWebb Inc-Tingo Mobile Limited deal and the Vodacom Group Ltd-Vodafone Egypt Telecommunications SAE deal were valued at $3,700.0 million and $3,154.6 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Vodacom Group Ltd-Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Plc valued at $1,740.0 million, whereas the deal between Digital Realty Trust Inc-Teraco Data Environments (Pty) Ltd valued at $1,700.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $15,694.6 million and accounted for nearly 50.97% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. The Middle East and Africa region accounted for 3.53% of the total M&A deals done globally, and accounted for 0.04% of the total deal size on a global scale.
