Top technology companies are working to lift underrepresented groups such as Asians, Blacks, and Hispanics. Apple committed an additional $30 million to its Racial Equity and Justice Initiative in August 2021. Microsoft plans to double the number of Black and African American people managers, senior individual contributors, and senior leaders in the US by 2025.

However, the number of executives from underrepresented groups remains surprisingly low in significant technology companies.

AT&T Inc (AT&T) provides telecommunications, media, and technology services. In 2021, the representation of Black & African American employees in AT&T’s US workforce was 19.9%. Hispanic & Latinx employees and Asian American & Pacific Islander employees represented 16.9% and 7.4% of the US workforce during the same year.

In leadership roles at AT&T’s US office, the representation of Asian American & Pacific Islander employees was 8.1% in 2021. Hispanic & Latinx employees represented 7.8% and Black employees represented 7.2% of AT&T’s US workforce at senior levels in 2021.

In 2021, AT&T spent $13.3 billion with certified diverse businesses. AT&T invested more than $3 billion to drive diversity, equity, and inclusion across its business during the same year.
