A total of 54 Private Equity/Venture Financing deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Technology, Media and Telecom of Malaysia, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $1,202.3 million. In the LTM period, July 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $546.4 million, resulting in an average deal value of $109.3 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of March 2022 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 12 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $0.9 million during that month.
Of the 54 deals, the deal secured between Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and EdgePoint Infrastructure, was the largest Private Equity/Venture Financing deal in the Malaysia Technology, Media and Telecom sector, which was valued at $500.0 million and was completed on July 8, 2021. The second-largest deal was between 65 Equity Partners; Gokongwei Group; MediaTek Inc; Qatar Investment Authority; SeaTown International; Sunway Bhd; Taiwan Mobile Co Ltd; YTL Corporation Bhd and Carsome Sdn Bhd, while the third-largest deal was between MediaTek Inc and Carsome Sdn Bhd. The 65 Equity Partners; Gokongwei Group; MediaTek Inc; Qatar Investment Authority; SeaTown International; Sunway Bhd; Taiwan Mobile Co Ltd; YTL Corporation Bhd-Carsome Sdn Bhd deal and the MediaTek Inc-Carsome Sdn Bhd deal were valued at $290.0 million and $170.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between EastBridge Partners; Sime Darby Bhd-SOCAR Mobility Malaysia Sdn Bhd valued at $55.9 million, whereas the deal between Ikhlas Capital Singapore Pte Ltd-Silverlake Group valued at $40.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $1,055.9 million and accounted for nearly 87.82% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months.
