A total of 64 Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Travel and Tourism of the Europe region, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $47,627.5 million. In the LTM period, September 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $22,492.6 million, resulting in an average deal value of $5,623.2 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of January 2022 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 9 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $279.8 million during that month.
Of the 64 deals, the deal secured between DraftKings Inc and Entain PLC, was the largest M&A deal in the Europe Travel and Tourism sector, which was valued at $21,551.4 million and was completed on September 21, 2021. The second-largest deal was between Aristocrat Leisure Ltd and Playtech Plc, while the third-largest deal was between Attestor Capital LLP; Pon Holdings BV; Volkswagen Group and Europcar Mobility Group SA. The Aristocrat Leisure Ltd-Playtech Plc deal and the Attestor Capital LLP; Pon Holdings BV; Volkswagen Group-Europcar Mobility Group SA deal were valued at $3,711.0 million and $3,400.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Flutter Entertainment plc-Sisal Group S.p.A. valued at $2,161.7 million, whereas the deal between Booking Holdings Inc-Etraveli Group valued at $1,835.7 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $32,659.9 million and accounted for nearly 68.57% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. The Europe region accounted for 45.12% of the total M&A deals done globally, and accounted for 8.91% of the total deal size on a global scale.
