New job postings for ‘remote work’, ‘hybrid work’ and ‘work from home’ rose in Q1 2022 over the same quarter last year following the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent digitalisation trend, found GlobalData. The leading data and analytics company notes that there is a demand for certain skill sets so, as a result, companies are looking beyond geographies to meet the demand via remote work options.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Hiring Report – Signals & Trends – Quarterly Report – Q1 2022’ reveals that technology, banking and payments, and healthcare were the sectors with the highest amount of remote work job postings during Q1 2022.

Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Tech firms such as Twitter and Reddit are letting employees opt for a remote or hybrid model. Twitter has been posting remote work-related jobs since the latter half of 2020 and has posted over 1,000 jobs with ‘Remote’ as a mention in the job description. In 2019 (from July), the company had no jobs with ‘remote’ in the job descriptions according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics Database. Tech and financial services companies may continue to post more remote work roles in the future.”

During Q1 2022, in the healthcare sector, Ochsner Health System posted remote work-related roles. Other companies that were also hiring for this work model included LifeStance Health Inc, Intermountain Healthcare Inc, and Evolent Health Inc.

Meanwhile in the banking and payments sector, JPMorgan Chase & Co’s ‘Head of Travel Legal’ role for its connected commerce business was an example of remote work postings. Morgan Stanley was hiring for ‘Trade Surveillance Product Manager, Vice President’, a hybrid work arrangement role. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce was another company posting remote work roles.

Prudential Financial Inc was hiring for ‘Director, Learning Partnership’ and is open to current hybrid work arrangements. The role focuses on enterprise learning & development (L&D) function by contributing to build critical employee capabilities and creating a diverse-skilled talent pool. Other financial services recruiters with hybrid work model roles were The Charles Schwab CorpCNO Financial Group Inc, and Swiss Re Ltd.

Other sectors have also begun advertising for remote work opportunities such as travel & tourism. For instance, Airbnb’s ‘Senior Mobility Tax Specialist’ role has remote work options in line with the company’s ‘Live and Work Anywhere’ strategy.

Sriprada adds: “Companies are potentially hiring for roles around learning and development for employee upskilling to combat skilled labor shortages. Another interesting trend to note is companies seem to be looking beyond geographies when seeking remote work roles. For example, Johnson & Johnson’s role ‘Senior Digital Product Manager, Digital and Data Science’ was posted with the US as the location, yet the company was open to recruitment for anyone in Europe with remote work options.”
