Latham & Watkins and CMS were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the power sector during 2024 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database has revealed that Latham & Watkins achieved its leading position in terms of value by advising on $19.4 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, CMS led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 30 deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Latham & Watkins registered more than a double-fold jump in the total value of deals advised by it during 2024 compared to the previous. Resultantly, it went ahead from occupying the fifth position by value in 2023 to top the chart by this metric in 2024. Apart from leading by value, Latham & Watkins also occupied the second position by volume during the year.
“Meanwhile, CMS’ ranking by volume improved from the second position in 2023 to the top position in 2024, even though the number of deals advised by it remained unchanged.”

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $12.5 billion worth of deals, followed by Vinson & Elkins with $11.7 billion, Kirkland & Ellis with $11.5 billion, and White & Case with $11.3 billion.
Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of volume with 26 deals, followed by White & Case with 26 deals, Kirkland & Ellis with 25 deals, and Vinson & Elkins with 21 deals.
