Latham & Watkins was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal adviser in the power sector during the first half (H1) of 2024 by both value and volume, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, which ranks legal advisers by the value and volume of M&A deals on which they advised.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Latham & Watkins achieved this leading position by advising on 14 deals of worth $11.5 billion.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Latham & Watkins witnessed improvement in total deal volume and value in H1 2024 compared to H1 2023. Consequently, its ranking by these metrics also improved.

“Latham & Watkins went ahead from occupying the ninth position by volume in H1 2023 to top the chart in H1 2024. Similarly, Its ranking in terms of value also improved from fifth position in H1 2023 to the top position in H1 2024.”

Kirkland & Ellis occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $11 billion worth of deals, followed by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with $9.7 billion, Clifford Chance with $8.3 billion and White & Case with $7.6 billion.

Meanwhile, CMS occupied the second position in terms of volume with 14 deals, followed by Kirkland & Ellis with 12 deals, White & Case with 12 deals and Vinson & Elkins with 11 deals.
