A study of Q2 2022 Earnings call transcripts reveals that business sentiment dropped marginally, by 1% compared to the previous quarter, while gaining 2% compared to Q2 2021. The average sentiment of companies declined across sectors, HQ, and market cap in Q2 ‘22. Russia and Ukraine continue to be among the top geographies discussed with high mentions growth amidst the geopolitical tensions. Sri Lanka, Belarus, and China mentions picked up during the quarter, while Vietnam lost steam.

A detailed understanding of the various trends and signals in Q2 2022

Themes such as Geopolitics, LNG, and Pharma Outsourcing had the highest growth in mentions during the quarter. Cryptocurrencies were also among the most discussed with companies mentioning price fluctuations and market-related impacts.

Public companies saw a rise in mention % of macroeconomic related risk. Keywords like inflation, shortages, and supply chain were trending. 

Geopolitics, Innovation, and Cloud remained key themes for the Technology sector. Ecommerce saw a rise in discussions. Companies were discussing ‘Investment’.

In the Pharma sector, ‘Data’, ‘Trial’, ‘Pipeline’, ‘Covid-19’ were some of the keywords trending along with Innovation and Geopolitics as themes.

The report summarizes key visible trends during Q2 2022 while also providing contextual analysis with sequential comparison to the previous quarter as well as key trends.

Key findings discussed in the report:

  • Key Stats by Region – Q2 2022: Mentions of Europe saw a 21% gain, but the sentiment of European companies saw a 2% dip. MEA mentions declined 12% over the previous quarter. However, the Sentiment of MEA headquartered companies was the highest at 0.88

  • Trending Countries: Russia and Ukraine continued to have the highest mentions growth during Q2 2022, amidst the prolonged conflict. China also emerged during the quarter.
