Mine-Site Technology Adoption Survey Report Overview
Based on the Earth Moving Equipment Safety Round Table (EMESRT) framework, 70% had invested at Levels 7, 8, or 9 of the framework, which refers to notice to operators, alert controls, and intervention controls, respectively. Over the next two years a shift is expected with approximately one-third of respondents expected to shift up from their current level to the next or higher.
The mine-site technology adoption survey report analyses the results of interviews with key personnel at a total of 150 individual mines, giving a confidence interval (margin of error) of 8% with a 95% confidence level. The survey also examines trends in the uptake of 13 technologies at the mine site, including mine management software, predictive maintenance, drones, autonomous vehicles, collision avoidance, wearables, remote control vehicles, and more. The report also identifies intentions to invest in the coming years and compares results by region, mine type, and company type.
Mine-Site Technology Adoption Market Segmentation by Regions
Mine-site technology have to be adopted in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australasia, Europe, and the Middle East. Australia continues to be the most advanced in terms of its investment, but the gaps between the regions are smaller than in previous years. In the Australasia region, all mines have invested in communication systems and almost all in software, drones, and predictive maintenance.
Variations across regions included a high share of mines in Australia expecting to invest more in predictive maintenance for mobile equipment, whilst collision avoidance featured frequently in the Americas and remote control equipment in Africa and Asia. Some 44% of respondents from Asia also expected to invest in battery/electric vehicles in the next two years.
