Regenerative Medicine in Medical Theme Analysis Report Overview
Regenerative medicine is an innovative field of medicine that holds the potential to fully cure diseases, eliminate cancer, and heal old and damaged tissue. Regenerative medicine is relevant to the orthopedic, cardiovascular, neurological, wound care, cancer, and pharmaceutical markets. The three main branches of regenerative medicine are gene therapy, cell therapy, and tissue repair. Currently, available gene therapies focus on curing rare diseases, but research is gaining traction in both prevalent and polygenic diseases. Market players in regenerative medicine range from large dominant corporations to small innovative start-ups. While the big-name corporations leverage their presence in relevant markets around the world, the start-ups continually develop novel technologies and expand regenerative medicine capabilities.
The Regenerative Medicine in Medical thematic intelligence report briefs about the types of regenerative medicine. It provides an overview of the current landscape, including healthcare, technology, regulatory, macroeconomic trends, and key players. The primary focus of this report is on regenerative medicine therapies that act as medical devices and are not strictly drug-related.

Regenerative Medicine in Medical - Value Chain Analysis
GlobalData’s regenerative medicine value chain in medical industry categorized into three major segments based on the form of the therapeutic agent used. They are gene therapies, cell therapies and tissue repair.
Gene therapies:As already discussed, gene therapies offer a unique opportunity to cure patients of disease and are often associated with a high price tag. High prices are arguably necessary when billing patients/payers for multiple treatments over longer periods of time, and they keep businesses running and drive R&D. There are many technical challenges in developing gene therapies, such as the host’s gene sequences, and gene editing facilitators, and gene vectors. Currently approved gene therapies are available for treating single-gene mutation diseases. Breaking into disease indications with multiple mutated genes will be a difficult challenge for developers.
Additionally, developers pay billions of dollars to license molecular technologies that facilitate their gene-editing technologies. The complex treatment must also be able to be packaged into size-limiting viral and non-viral vectors. Considering these developmental challenges, the high price tags are not unreasonable. Moving forward, it is still the onus of the developers to negotiate reasonable payment plans with payers and individuals so that these treatments can be accessed. Novartis and bluebird bio are currently working out payment plan details to increase patient access to these therapies. Bluebird bio has proposed an upfront payment of more than $340,000, followed by additional payments if the therapy is effective. Novartis is charging heavily for five years. The current market leaders in gene therapy are Novartis and BioMarin.
