His career in technology journalism and analysis has included detailed research into IT projects and he has co-authored the book, Crash, which explored why and how IT projects go wrong. He has also co-authored a novel on the life of computer pioneer Charles Babbage. Prior to joining Thematic Research, David spent six years editing a GlobalData title exploring the use of technology in the UK public sector. He has previously worked for a news agency and for the BBC.
Sam Holt
Sam is a Graduate Analyst in the Thematic Research Department at GlobalData. Shortly following his graduation from the University of Leeds with a BSc in Physics, he joined the GlobalData team in London and now looks to investigate themes affecting the technology, aerospace and power sectors. He completed a placement year at Rolls-Royce in 2019-20 as part of his degree, where he worked on novel welding methods, ceramic matrix composites and non-conformance operations. He has an interest in data science and seeks to further automate and improve the GlobalData Thematic Scorecard.
Michael Orme
Mike has been a technology forecaster and analyst for 40 years, armed with a strong aversion to hype and hand-waving. Left field is his natural habitat. He worked directly with Steve Jobs and Andy Grove on projects while at the Silicon Valley consultancy Regis McKenna, broke the story on the BBC behind the collapse of the Japanese 5th Generation Computer project, spent nearly a decade as a global consultant at HP, helped companies spun out from Cambridge University find start-up capital, headed up technology research at Centrum and Mirabeau, and worked closely with Cyrus Mewawalla at CM Research. Mike also founded the Signum Intel advisory for global fund managers and wrote one of the first books on the semiconductor revolution: Micros: A Pervasive Force.
