Moncler, an Italian apparel company, opened 19 new stores in 2021, similarly, the company also opened around 9 stores in 2020. Moncler has a presence in all major markets both through the retail channel, which consists of directly operated stores, the online store, and through the wholesale channel consisting of multi-brand doors, shop-in-shops in luxury department stores, and online luxury multi-brand retailers.
Moncler group owns and operates two brands namely Moncler and Stone Island. The majority of Moncler revenues come through the retail channel, consisting of directly operated mono-brand stores and the online channel. The retail channel is the moneymaker for Moncler, with nearly 78% of its total sales in 2021 generated from the retail channel. It opened major stores in many parts of the world, including the Chengdu and the Milan Galleria flagship stores, with a focus on connecting with younger customers.
In 2021, Moncler's mono-brand distribution network included 237 retail stores, an increase of 18 stores from the end of 2020, and 64 wholesale stores, an increase of 1 store from 2020. Of the 237 retail stores in 2021, the Asia region had the most retail store with 117 stores, followed by 84 stores in EMEA, and 36 stores in America.
In FY 2021, Moncler recorded revenue of EUR1,824.2 million an increase of 26.6% compared to 2020. The retail channel generated revenue of EUR1,429.2, an increase of 31.2% compared to 2020 while the wholesale channel generated EUR394.9 million with a 12.5% growth compared to 2020. The Strong acceleration in the revenue was driven by the effective implementation of business strategies, the success of collections, and the growth of DTC channels, especially online direct.
