Premium beers continue to find patronage

Breweries were able to grow their high-end business in 2019 by focusing more carefully on promoting premium offerings as a sophisticated and unparalleled consumption experience. In line with their rising purchasing power, Ukrainian consumers are displaying tendency to opt for quality over quantity when it comes to alcoholic drinks. This ties in with the consumer shift from mass-produced lagers that dominate the market to high-quality imported beers and craft beers with diverse flavors and styles. Additionally, increase in purchasing power is making consumers more adventurous and more willing to experiment, helping to stimulate sales. The steadily growing economy, falling unemployment rate, and rising real wages is boosting demand for premium quality beer & cider in the country.

Rising international tourism boosts sales

One of the major factors driving growth in the Ukrainian beer market is the growing tourism in the country. In 2019, millions of tourists visited the country. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, foreign tourists have spent a significant amount of money in Ukraine in 2019, contributing a high-single-digit percentage of the country's GDP. The health of the tourism sector, which is a major contributor to the GDP, can strongly influence the fortunes of the beer and cider sector, particularly within the on-trade channel. The synergy with tourism is also expected to help the local beer industry flourish over the coming years. In 2019, the citizens of Turkey, the US, Germany, and the UK were the most solvent among international tourists in Ukraine.
