As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the total beer market saw a drop in sales. To protect themselves from infection, British consumers limited their trips to physical stores. As a result, e-commerce sales of beer and cider surged in 2020. Meanwhile, as consumers chose online ordering, the e-commerce channel saw a jump in revenues.

The alcohol consumption trends are changing and are affecting the beer, as a result, manufacturers are offering low/no alcohol options to comply with evolving consumer preferences. Additionally, no alcohol beer volumes have registered growth despite the pandemic crisis. 

In 2020, beer was the largest category in the alcoholic beverages industry in the UK, with Heineken leading the sales (by value), followed by AB-InBev and Molson Coors. These three companies cumulatively held over half the British beer market by value. 

Beer includes fermented alcoholic beverages that are typically, but not exclusively, made from malt to which hops have been added.

Heineken is the largest company in the UK's beer market with just over a fifth of the market share in 2020 

Foster`s, was the flagship brand owned by Heineken and remained one of the popular brands in the British beer market recording the second-highest beer sales by value. The other leading brands owned by Heineken  include Strongbow, Heineken, Moretti & Amstel. 

AB-InBev is the second-largest beer company in the UK, with just under a fifth of the market share in 2020 

AB-InBev is the second-largest brewer in the UK. Leading brands owned by the company includes Budweiser, Stella Artois, Corona, and Beck`s.

The other market-leading positions were held by Molson Coors and Carlsberg Group 

Molson Coors and Carlsberg Group had the third and fourth-largest market share in the Beer market in the UK. 

Carling, Coors, and Cobra were some of the brands owned by Molson Coors with a major market presence in the British beer market. Carling was the top seller in UK’s beer market, with a market share of just under one-tenth of the total beer market by value.

Carlsberg Group, the fourth largest brewery group in the UK, markets its offerings under various brands such as Carlsberg, 1664, Holsten, and Skol.
