A total of 1,840 Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Europe region, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $545,320.4 million. In the LTM period, May 2022 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $68,984.4 million, resulting in an average deal value of $518.7 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of December 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 193 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $340.3 million during that month.
Of the 1,840 deals, the deal secured between DraftKings Inc and Entain PLC, was the largest M&A deal in the Europe region, which was valued at $21,551.4 million and was completed on September 21, 2021. The second-largest deal was between Philip Morris International Inc and Swedish Match AB, while the third-largest deal was between CSL Ltd and Vifor Pharma Ltd. The Philip Morris International Inc-Swedish Match AB deal and the CSL Ltd-Vifor Pharma Ltd deal were valued at $17,326.9 million and $12,300.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Parker Hannifin Corp-Meggitt Plc valued at $10,145.4 million, whereas the deal between Nitro Bidco Limited; NortonLifeLock Inc-Avast Plc valued at $9,062.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $70,385.7 million and accounted for nearly 12.91% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. The Europe region accounted for 22.27% of the total M&A deals done globally, and accounted for 24.04% of the total deal size on a global scale.
