Population growth analysis of Kenya  

Kenya’s population has increased significantly between 2000 and 2019. The country’s fertility rate has decreased since 1990. Compared to 1990, the country’s death rate has decreased in 2020. The population density since 2000 has increased at a significant percentage compared to the population density in 1990. The male birth rate is higher in Kenya compared to the female birth rate.  

Population segmentations 

Age and gender 

The majority of the population in Kenya is within the age group of 15 and 64. In 2021, a significant percentage of the population was below 15 years of age, the majority was in the working-age bracket (15–64), and the rest was over 65 years. The split remains the same if we segment the population based on gender, the majority of the male and female population belong to the age group of 15-64 years.  

Urban and rural population 

Prior to 2007, maximum people was resided in rural areas compared to the urban areas. But gradually the population of Kenya was split in a significant ratio between the rural and urban areas. Post 2010 a significant number of the total population of Kenya started residing in the urban areas as well, however, the majority still reside in the rural areas.  

Major city: population age – split 

Nairobi, the major city of this country, has the maximum percentage of the population belonging to the age group of 15-64 age group, a fair percentage of the total population belong to the age group of 10-15 years and the rest belong to the over 65 age groups.  

Population split – education 

The population trend based on education in the major city of the country, Nairobi, has a significant percentage of the total population holding secondary education, a moderate percentage of the population having higher education, and a minority having less than secondary education in 2020.
