  • Essakane Gold Mine in Oudalan, was the largest surface mine in Burkina Faso, producing approximately 15.87 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced gold (465.33 thousand ounces) in 2021. The Essakane Gold Mine is owned by Government of Burkina Faso;Iamgold Corp, and is due to operate until 2027. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 10.76 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing gold (84.19 thousand ounces), was the Bouly Project located in Kadiogo. The Bouly Project is owned by Government of Burkina Faso;Nord Gold SE, and is due to operate until 2030.
