Segovia Operations in Antioquia, was the largest underground mine in Colombia, producing approximately 0.47 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced gold (219.34 thousand ounces) in 2021. The Segovia Operations is owned by GCM Mining Corp, and is due to operate until 2027. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 0.34 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing gold (1.02 thousand tonnes), was the Buritica Gold Project located in Antioquia. The Buritica Gold Project is owned by Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2034.
Santa Rosa Gold Project located in Antioquia was the third-largest mine, the El Roble Mine located in Choco was the fourth-largest mine, and the Casablanca Mine (Uniminas SAS) located in Cundinamarca was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.3 mmtpa, 0.28 mmtpa and 0.21 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Santa Rosa Gold Project is owned by Red Eagle Mining Corp which is due to operate until 2025, the El Roble Mine is owned by Minera El Roble S.A.;Atico Mining Corp and the Casablanca Mine (Uniminas SAS) is owned by CI Milpa SA.
The five largest underground mines, i.e., Segovia Operations, Buritica Gold Project, Santa Rosa Gold Project, El Roble Mine, and Casablanca Mine (Uniminas SAS), cumulatively produced approximately 1.59 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
