Egypt: Five Largest Mines in 2021

  • Sukari Mine in Red Sea, was the largest mine in Egypt, producing approximately 13.13 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced gold (415.37 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Sukari Mine is owned by Egyptian Mineral Resource Authority;Centamin Plc, and is due to operate until 2033. The second largest mine with approximately 1.06 mmtpa of ROM, was the El Gedida Mine located in Giza. The El Gedida Mine is owned by The Metallurgical Industries Co.

  • El Quseir Mine located in Red Sea was the third-largest mine, the Abu Tartour Mine located in Minya was the fourth-largest mine, and the Al Kalabash Mine located in Aswan was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.69 mmtpa, 0.67 mmtpa and 0.59 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The El Quseir Mine is owned by The Metallurgical Industries Co, the Abu Tartour Mine is owned by Enppi (Engineering for the Petroleum & Process Industries) and the Al Kalabash Mine is owned by The Metallurgical Industries Co.

  • The five largest mines, i.e., Sukari Mine, El Gedida Mine, El Quseir Mine, Abu Tartour Mine, and Al Kalabash Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 16.14 mmtpa of ROM in 2021
