El Gedida Mine in Giza, was the largest surface mine in Egypt, producing approximately 1.06 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The El Gedida Mine is owned by The Metallurgical Industries Co. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 0.69 mmtpa of ROM, was the El Quseir Mine located in Red Sea. The El Quseir Mine is owned by The Metallurgical Industries Co.
Al Kalabash Mine located in Aswan was the third-largest mine, the Burj Al-Arab Salt Mine located in Alexandria was the fourth-largest mine, and the Branice Mine located in Red Sea was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.59 mmtpa, 0.35 mmtpa and 0.03 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Al Kalabash Mine is owned by The Metallurgical Industries Co, the Burj Al-Arab Salt Mine is owned by El Nasr Salines Co and the Branice Mine is owned by Egyptian Company for Mineral Resources.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., El Gedida Mine, El Quseir Mine, Al Kalabash Mine, Burj Al-Arab Salt Mine, and Branice Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 2.72 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
