Delphi-Distomon Mine in Central Greece, was the largest underground mine in Greece, producing approximately 1.02 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Delphi-Distomon Mine is owned by Mytilineos SA. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 0.54 mmtpa of ROM, was the Amfissa Mine located in Central Greece. The Amfissa Mine is owned by Imerys SA.
Olympias Mine located in Central Macedonia was the third-largest mine, the Stratoni Mine located in Central Macedonia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Gerorema Mine located in South Aegean was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.42 mmtpa, 0.17 mmtpa and 0.09 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Olympias Mine is owned by Eldorado Gold Corp which is due to operate until 2044, the Stratoni Mine is owned by Eldorado Gold Corp which is due to operate until 2025 and the Gerorema Mine is owned by Terna Mag S.A..
The five largest underground mines, i.e., Delphi-Distomon Mine, Amfissa Mine, Olympias Mine, Stratoni Mine, and Gerorema Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 2.24 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
