GolGohar Iron Ore Mine in Kerman, was the largest surface mine in Iran, producing approximately 19.21 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The GolGohar Iron Ore Mine is owned by Golgohar Mining & Industrial Co. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 13.97 mmtpa of ROM, was the Chadormalu Mine located in Yazd. The Chadormalu Mine is owned by Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Co, and is due to operate until 2035.
Sarcheshmeh Mine located in Kerman was the third-largest mine, the Maskani Mine located in Isfahan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Soungoun Ahar Mine located in East Azerbaijan was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 13.24 mmtpa, 8.19 mmtpa and 6.38 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Sarcheshmeh Mine is owned by National Iranian Copper Industries Co, the Maskani Mine is owned by Faraz Ma'aden Anarak Co. and the Soungoun Ahar Mine is owned by National Iranian Copper Industries Co.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., GolGohar Iron Ore Mine, Chadormalu Mine, Sarcheshmeh Mine, Maskani Mine, and Soungoun Ahar Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 61 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
