Tabas Mine in Khorasan, was the largest underground mine in Iran, producing approximately 1.27 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Tabas Mine is owned by National Iranian Steel Company. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 0.71 mmtpa of ROM, was the Eastern Parvadeh Mine located in Khorasan. The Eastern Parvadeh Mine is owned by Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization.
Khomrood Mine located in Kerman was the third-largest mine, the Parvadeh 2 and 3 Mines located in Khorasan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Gushfill Mine located in Isfahan was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.64 mmtpa, 0.59 mmtpa and 0.58 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The five largest underground mines, i.e., Tabas Mine, Eastern Parvadeh Mine, Khomrood Mine, Parvadeh 2 and 3 Mines, and Gushfill Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 3.79 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
