Fekola Mine in Kayes, was the largest surface mine in Mali, producing approximately 6.57 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced gold (567.8 thousand ounces) in 2021. The Fekola Mine is owned by B2Gold Corp;Government Of Mali, and is due to operate until 2034. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 2.7 mmtpa of ROM and primarily producing gold (200.67 thousand ounces), was the Kodieran Mine located in Bamako Capital District. The Kodieran Mine is owned by Government Of Mali;Wassoul’Or SA.
Nampala Project located in Bamako Capital District was the third-largest mine, the Tabakoroni Mine located in Sikasso was the fourth-largest mine, and the Yanfolila Project located in Sikasso was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 1.44 mmtpa, 1.35 mmtpa and 1 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. Primarily, the Nampala Project produced approximately 36.61 thousand ounces of gold, the Tabakoroni Mine produced approximately 57.04 thousand ounces of gold, and the Yanfolila Project produced approximately 105 thousand ounces of silver in the year 2021. The Nampala Project is owned by Robex Resources Inc which is due to operate until 2031, the Tabakoroni Mine is owned by Resolute Mining Ltd;Government Of Mali which is due to operate until 2026 and the Yanfolila Project is owned by Government Of Mali;Hummingbird Resources Plc which is due to operate until 2025.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Fekola Mine, Kodieran Mine, Nampala Project, Tabakoroni Mine, and Yanfolila Project, cumulatively produced approximately 13.05 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
