Belchatow Mine in Lodz, was the largest surface mine in Poland, producing approximately 41.45 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Belchatow Mine is owned by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA, and is due to operate until 2041. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 10.95 mmtpa of ROM, was the Turow Mine located in Silesian. The Turow Mine is owned by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA, and is due to operate until 2044.
Konin Mine located in Greater Poland was the third-largest mine, the Gliniany Quarry located in Swietokrzyskie was the fourth-largest mine, and the Mirowo Quarry located in Pomeranian was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 9.62 mmtpa, 2.82 mmtpa and 0.64 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Konin Mine is owned by Zespol Elektrowni Patnow Adamow Konin SA which is due to operate until 2041, the Gliniany Quarry is owned by CRH Plc and the Mirowo Quarry is owned by CEMEX SAB de CV.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Belchatow Mine, Turow Mine, Konin Mine, Gliniany Quarry, and Mirowo Quarry, cumulatively produced approximately 66.13 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
