Mae Moh Mine in Lampang, was the largest surface mine in Thailand, producing approximately 16.53 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Mae Moh Mine is owned by Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, and is due to operate until 2029. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 4.96 mmtpa of ROM, was the Saraburi Quarry located in Saraburi. The Saraburi Quarry is owned by Siam City Cement Public Co Ltd.
Tubkwang Mine located in Saraburi was the third-largest mine, the Suphanburi Quarry located in Suphan Buri was the fourth-largest mine, and the Ayudhya Quarry located in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 2.05 mmtpa, 1.99 mmtpa and 0.8 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Tubkwang Mine is owned by Chememan plc, the Suphanburi Quarry is owned by Siam City Cement Public Co Ltd and the Ayudhya Quarry is owned by Siam City Cement Public Co Ltd.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Mae Moh Mine, Saraburi Quarry, Tubkwang Mine, Suphanburi Quarry, and Ayudhya Quarry, cumulatively produced approximately 27.14 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
