Presently, China accounts for more than 40% of the total active (operational) trunk/transmission pipeline length in Asia from more than 195 pipelines. Rapid economic growth has prompted the country to develop a robust pipeline infrastructure to meet its ever-growing oil and gas needs.
India has about quarter share in Asia’s active pipelines length from about 165 pipelines. The country would witness pipeline length additions of 28,946 km from 54 planned and announced projects during 2022 to 2026 primarily for natural gas transportation.
Pakistan contributes about 8% of Asia’s pipeline length from 29 pipelines. A total length of 3,277 km would be added from 17 upcoming pipelines by 2026.
The fourth-largest contributor to Asia’s active pipeline length is Indonesia with 5% share from 64 active pipelines. A total of 19 planned and announced projects are expected to add a length of 2,398 km during 2022 to 2026.
Other notable contributors to Asia’s active pipeline length include Myanmar with 4%, South Korea, and Thailand, with each country contributing about 3% share. These countries are expected to collectively add a pipeline length of 1,920 km from 10 upcoming pipelines.
