APAC Fixed Broadband Subscription Trends
Internet User Trends in Asia-Pacific: Fixed internet users in Asia-Pacific will expand by 2028. This will be largely driven by government, telecom regulator, and operator initiatives to improve fixed broadband coverage in rural areas. The number of fixed broadband lines will also grow over the same period. Fixed broadband penetration of the population will be driven by operators’ fixed broadband coverage expansions through major rollouts alongside multi-stakeholder programs to increase subsea cable connection bandwidth and roll out new cables.
Fixed Broadband Technology Trends in Asia-Pacific: Fiber will remain the leading fixed broadband technology during 2023-2028. It will also be the fastest-growing technology for fixed broadband over 2023-2028, driven by FTTH/B network expansions by countries across the region. FTTH/B will account for the majority share of total APAC fixed broadband lines in 2028. GlobalData expects Singapore will have the highest share of FTTH/B lines as a percentage of total fixed broadband lines. It will be followed by China, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand.

APAC Fixed Broadband Revenue Trends
Fixed Broadband ARPU in Asia-Pacific: Aggregate Fixed broadband ARPS will decline over 2023-2028. The decline in ARPS will be due to operators’ discounted multiplay bundle offers. For instance, Celcom Malaysia at the time of this writing was seen offering a dual-play package inclusive of 300 Mbps fixed broadband and mobile services for MYR120 ($27)/month down from MYR150 ($34)/month on a two-year contract period. However, telecom operators can tap into growing fixed broadband expenditure by offering a more-for-more proposition in affluent and emerging affluent markets.
Fixed Broadband Revenue Trends in Asia-Pacific: Despite a drop in aggregate fixed broadband ARPS, fixed broadband revenue in Asia-Pacific will grow over the forecast period. This growth will be driven by a continued rise in the adoption of relatively high ARPS-FTTH/B services, especially gigabit fiber services that operators have been rolling out. National broadband plans and broadband rollouts are also critical in supporting broadband availability, affordability, and bandwidth; and, thus, in increasing broadband revenue.
