Ford Sales by Vehicle Type in the US (Q1 2017 – Q2 2022)

Ford, the auto company that invented the moving assembly line for the mass production of cars, has sold over 915,820 cars in the US, in the first half of 2022, a decrease of nearly 8% as compared to the sales of 996,661 cars in the first half of 2021.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker segments its vehicles into three categories: Cars, Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), and Trucks. Over the years, the overall vehicle sales in the US have declined, with the sales of cars being impacted the most. SUV and Truck sales meanwhile have picked up the pace due to the increased demand for the newly launched vehicles under the Ford & Lincoln badging.

Cars: the segments consist of cars like the Ford Fusion, Ford GT, Ford Mustang, Lincoln MKZ, and the Lincoln Continental. The Ford Mustang is the most sold vehicle in this segment with 26,244 cars sold during the six months of 2022.

SUVs: this segment consists of vehicles like the Ford EcoSport, Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Escape, Ford Bronco, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford Edge, Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Corsair (Lincoln MKC), Lincoln Nautilus (Lincoln MKX), Lincoln Aviator and Lincoln Navigator. Ford Explorer is the best-selling vehicle in Ford’s SUV segment in the US with over 102,917 SUVs sold during the first half of 2022.

Trucks: the segments consist of vehicles like the Ford F-Series, Ford Ranger, Ford Maverick, Ford E-Series, Ford Transit, Ford Transit Connect, and Ford Heavy trucks. In the first six months of 2022, the Ford F-series was the most sold Ford truck in the US with 299,345 F-series trucks sold.

In 2022, Ford introduced a new line of electric vehicles including the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit. A total of 3,008 Ford E-Transit and 1,837 F-150 Lightning were sold in June 2022. In terms of electric vehicle sales in the US, Ford is second only to Tesla.
