A total of 98 Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Asia-Pacific region, driven by Digital Media, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $12,904.5 million. In the LTM period, August 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $5,327.0 million, resulting in an average deal value of $532.7 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of November 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 16 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $33.6 million during that month.
Of the 98 deals, the deal secured between PayU and BillDesk, was the largest M&A deal in the Asia-Pacific driven by Digital Media, which was valued at $4,700.0 million and was completed on August 31, 2021. The second-largest deal was between Australia Tower Network Pty Ltd and Axicom Pty Ltd, while the third-largest deal was between Alphabet Inc and Bharti Airtel Ltd. The Australia Tower Network Pty Ltd-Axicom Pty Ltd deal and the Alphabet Inc-Bharti Airtel Ltd deal were valued at $2,681.3 million and $700.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Axiata Investments (Indonesia) Sdn Bhd; XL Axiata Tbk-PT Link Net Tbk valued at $606.0 million, whereas the deal between Think and Learn Pvt Ltd-Great Learning valued at $600.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $9,287.3 million and accounted for nearly 71.97% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. The Asia-Pacific region accounted for 6.70% of the total M&A deals done globally, and accounted for 29.43% of the total deal size on a global scale.
