Population growth analysis 

The country’s population increased in 2021, compared to the population in 2020. During the last decade from 2011-2020, the population of the country grew significantly. The population is forecast to increase in 2024. The population is forecast to grow at an average annual rate of a fair percentage during the period 2022–2026.  

Population age – Split 

Majority of Argentina’s population is between the age of 15 and 64. In 2021, a fair percentage of the population was below 15 years of age, the maximum percentage was in the working-age bracket (15– 64), and the rest was aged above 65 years. The share of the working-age population is expected to increase slightly in 2025, and the 65 and above population is also expected to increase in 2025. Although the working-age population is increasing, the growth rate is minimal, and the 0–14 age group population is expected to decline during 2015–2025, which is a cause for concern. In Argentina’s population majority was female and the rest was male in 2021.

The four major cities comprised a relevant percentage of the country’s population in 2021 and the highest concentration of economic activities are in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. 

Future Risks - Increasing rate of urban poverty 

According to INDEC, extreme poverty in the country rose in June 2021. Poverty increased due to shutdown of businesses, loss of jobs and poor healthcare system amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Poverty among the young age (below 14 years) was at the highest in 2021. 

Argentina’s working age population to rise 

Argentina’s old age (65+) population is increasing. In 2021, the birth rate in Argentina was fair and its fertility rate was very low. The country’s female population is expected to witness a slight decline in 2025. The urban population share of the total population has been rising in Argentina.
