Australia: Five Largest Silver Mines in 2021

  • Cannington Mine in Queensland, was the largest silver-producing mine in Australia, producing approximately 13,655 thousand ounces of silver and an estimated 2.8 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Cannington Mine is owned by South32 Ltd, and is due to operate until 2031. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 4,718 thousand ounces and an estimated 8.14 mmtpa of ROM, was the Mount Isa Zinc Mine located in Queensland. The Mount Isa Zinc Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2029.

  • Tritton Copper Mine located in New South Wales was the third-largest mine, the Golden Grove Mine located in Western Australia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Hellyer Mine located in Tasmania was the fifth-largest mine, with a total silver production of 4,313 thousand ounces, 2,897 thousand ounces and 1,918 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Tritton Copper Mine, the Golden Grove Mine and the Hellyer Mine had an estimated ROM production of 1.57 mmtpa, 1.21 mmtpa and 1.46 mmtpa respectively. The Tritton Copper Mine is owned by Aeris Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2025, the Golden Grove Mine is owned by EMR Capital Group which is due to operate until 2031 and the Hellyer Mine is owned by NQ Minerals Plc which is due to operate until 2028.

  • The five largest silver mines, i.e., Cannington Mine, Mount Isa Zinc Mine, Tritton Copper Mine, Golden Grove Mine, and Hellyer Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 27,501 thousand ounces of silver, 15.20 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
