Muruntau Mine in Navoiy Viloyati, Uzbekistan, was the largest gold-producing mine in the world, producing approximately 1,929 thousand ounces of gold and an estimated 14.72 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Muruntau Mine is owned by Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat, and is due to operate until 2032. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 1,333 thousand ounces and an estimated 16.24 mmtpa of ROM, was the Carlin Mine located in Nevada, Uzbekistan. The Carlin Mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corp, and is due to operate until 2032.
Olimpiada Mine located in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia was the third-largest mine, the Shaxi Copper Mine located in Anhui, China was the fourth-largest mine, and the Pueblo Viejo Mine located in Sanchez Ramirez, Dominican Republic was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated gold production of 1,098 thousand ounces, 946.4 thousand ounces and 876 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Olimpiada Mine, the Shaxi Copper Mine and the Pueblo Viejo Mine had an estimated ROM production of 10.91 mmtpa, 4.32 mmtpa and 14.04 mmtpa respectively. The Olimpiada Mine is owned by Polyus which is due to operate until 2030, the Shaxi Copper Mine is owned by Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Co Ltd and the Pueblo Viejo Mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corp which is due to operate until 2030.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Muruntau Mine, Carlin Mine, Olimpiada Mine, Shaxi Copper Mine, and Pueblo Viejo Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 6,182.4 thousand ounces of gold, 60.23 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
