The second largest surface diamond-producing mine with an estimated production of 13.4 million carats of diamond and an estimated 2.39 mmtpa of ROM in 2021, was the Kao Mine located in Butha-Buthe, Botswana. The Kao Mine is owned by Namakwa Diamonds Limited, and is due to operate until 2034.
