Sindesar Khurd Mine in Rajasthan, was the largest lead-producing mine in India, producing approximately 56 thousand tonnes of lead and an estimated 3 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Sindesar Khurd Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd, and is due to operate until 2030. The second largest lead-producing mine with an estimated lead production of 55.5 thousand tonnes and an estimated 3.86 mmtpa of ROM, was the Rampura Agucha Mine located in Rajasthan. The Rampura Agucha Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd, and is due to operate until 2027.
Zawar Mine located in Rajasthan was the third-largest mine, the Kayad Mine located in Rajasthan was the fourth-largest mine, and the Agnigundala Mine located in Andhra Pradesh was the fifth-largest mine, with a total lead production of 30.8 thousand tonnes, 11.7 thousand tonnes and 10 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Zawar Mine, the Kayad Mine and the Agnigundala Mine had an estimated ROM production of 2.72 mmtpa, 0.93 mmtpa and 0.65 mmtpa respectively. The Zawar Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2029, the Kayad Mine is owned by Vedanta Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2023 and the Agnigundala Mine is owned by Sterlite Opportunities and Ventures Limited.
The five largest lead mines, i.e., Sindesar Khurd Mine, Rampura Agucha Mine, Zawar Mine, Kayad Mine, and Agnigundala Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 164 thousand tonnes of lead, 11.12 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
