Martabe Project in North Sumatra, was the largest silver-producing mine in Indonesia, producing approximately 2,341 thousand ounces of silver and an estimated 5.9 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Martabe Project is owned by PT United Tractors Tbk, and is due to operate until 2034. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 1,878 thousand ounces and an estimated 21.66 mmtpa of ROM, was the Deep Mill Level Zone Mine located in North Sumatra. The Deep Mill Level Zone Mine is owned by PT Inalum, and is due to operate until 2041.
Grasberg Block Cave Mine located in Papua was the third-largest mine, the Batu Hijau Mine located in West Nusa Tenggara was the fourth-largest mine, and the Big Gossan Underground Mine located in Papua was the fifth-largest mine, with a total silver production of 1,648 thousand ounces, 963.3 thousand ounces and 770.6 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Grasberg Block Cave Mine, the Batu Hijau Mine and the Big Gossan Underground Mine had an estimated ROM production of 26.36 mmtpa, 8.62 mmtpa and 2.8 mmtpa respectively. The Grasberg Block Cave Mine is owned by PT Inalum which is due to operate until 2041, the Batu Hijau Mine is owned by PT Amman Mineral Internasional which is due to operate until 2031 and the Big Gossan Underground Mine is owned by PT Inalum which is due to operate until 2041.
The five largest silver mines, i.e., Martabe Project, Deep Mill Level Zone Mine, Grasberg Block Cave Mine, Batu Hijau Mine, and Big Gossan Underground Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 7,600.9 thousand ounces of silver, 65.36 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
