Saindak Mine in Balochistan, was the largest surface mine in Pakistan, producing approximately 3.58 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) and primarily produced copper (12.53 thousand tonnes) in 2021. The Saindak Mine is owned by Saindak Metals Limited;Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd, and is due to operate until 2063. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 2.41 mmtpa of ROM, was the Thar Coalfield Block II Project located in Sindh. The Thar Coalfield Block II Project is owned by Engro Energy Ltd;Government of Sindh, and is due to operate until 2052.
AAA Black Granite Quarry located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the third-largest mine, the Jatta Salt Mines located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the fourth-largest mine, and the Karachi Bauxite Mine located in Sindh was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 0.44 mmtpa, 0.07 mmtpa and 0.02 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The AAA Black Granite Quarry is owned by Indus Mining (pvt) Limited, the Jatta Salt Mines is owned by Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation and the Karachi Bauxite Mine is owned by Mteq Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd..
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Saindak Mine, Thar Coalfield Block II Project, AAA Black Granite Quarry, Jatta Salt Mines, and Karachi Bauxite Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 6.52 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
