Northern GOK Mine in Dnipropetrovsk, was the largest surface mine in Ukraine, producing approximately 48.03 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Northern GOK Mine is owned by Metinvest BV. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 46.24 mmtpa of ROM, was the Ingulets GOK Mine located in Dnipropetrovsk. The Ingulets GOK Mine is owned by Metinvest BV, and is due to operate until 2081.
Kryviy Rih Open Pit Mine located in Dnipropetrovsk was the third-largest mine, the Poltava Mine located in Poltava was the fourth-largest mine, and the Yeristovskoye Mine located in Poltava was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 25.7 mmtpa, 18.45 mmtpa and 15.19 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Kryviy Rih Open Pit Mine is owned by ArcelorMittal SA which is due to operate until 2046, the Poltava Mine is owned by Ferrexpo Plc which is due to operate until 2071 and the Yeristovskoye Mine is owned by Ferrexpo Plc which is due to operate until 2056.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Northern GOK Mine, Ingulets GOK Mine, Kryviy Rih Open Pit Mine, Poltava Mine, and Yeristovskoye Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 153.61 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
