DTEK Pavlogradugol Mining Complex in Dnipropetrovsk, was the largest underground mine in Ukraine, producing approximately 20.19 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The DTEK Pavlogradugol Mining Complex is owned by DTEK Energy BV, and is due to operate until 2061. The second largest underground mine with an estimated 8.79 mmtpa of ROM, was the Krasnoarmeiskaya-Zapadnaya No. 1 Mine located in Donetsk. The Krasnoarmeiskaya-Zapadnaya No. 1 Mine is owned by Donetsksteel.
Samsonovskaya-Zapadnaya Mine located in Luhansk was the third-largest mine, the Eksplutatsionnay Mine located in Zaporizhia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Novokonstantinovskoye Mine located in Kirovohrad was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 5.13 mmtpa, 4 mmtpa and 2.53 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Samsonovskaya-Zapadnaya Mine is owned by Metinvest BV, the Eksplutatsionnay Mine is owned by Zaporozhye Iron Ore Integrated Works and the Novokonstantinovskoye Mine is owned by Vostochny Mining and Ore-Dressing Combine.
The five largest underground mines, i.e., DTEK Pavlogradugol Mining Complex, Krasnoarmeiskaya-Zapadnaya No. 1 Mine, Samsonovskaya-Zapadnaya Mine, Eksplutatsionnay Mine, and Novokonstantinovskoye Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 40.65 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
