Jeronimo Martins SGPS SA (Jeronimo) is involved in the production, distribution, and sale of food and fast-moving consumer goods. The company provides various products including fruits, vegetables, dairy, beauty, health care, home care products and others. It operates through multiple store formats such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, cash and carry stores, and pharmacies. It operates these stores under various banners such as Pingo Doce, Biedronka, Hebe, Ara, Hussel, Jeronymo and Recheio. The Polish food store chain Biedronka is their largest business. In Portugal, Pingo Doce is the supermarket segment leader while Recheio leads the cash and carry market. In Colombia, they own the Ara chain of discount stores. They also develop an agribusiness operation in Portugal to ensure direct access to the supply sources of strategic products. In Poland, they own the Hebe beauty store chain.In FY2021, the group added 286 stores bringing the store count to 4,825. Jeronimo is headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal.
In FY2021, Jeronimo operated with a total of 4,825 stores. During the year, Ara and Biedronka opened 361 new stores .Following a 2020 year where market constraints forced a significant slowdown in openings, Ara focused on building a strong and relevant pipeline as a means to mitigate potential unforeseen events. In a generally unrestricted operating environment and with confidence boosted by daily performance, the Company focused on store openings and inaugurated 157 stores, exceeding the initial plan outlined for FY2021. Biedronka, which set a target of adding 100 stores (net) to its network of locations, ended up by adding 135 new stores in net terms, continuing to implement a medium-term expansion plan for which the quality of the locations is central to strengthening the network. The banner also opened 14 micro-fulfilment centres to support its Biek operation (e-commerce operation with ultra-fast deliveries) inaugurated in October 2020. Also Ara had an ambitious expansion plan opened two warehouses to support logistics operations in FY2021.
The Group sales grew by 8.3% in FY2021, following the firm’s commitment to provide quality at low prices to its consumers that enabled it to deliver strong sales.
