Metro Inc. is a food and pharmacy retailer, franchisor, distributor, and manufacturer. As of FY2021, the Corporation operates with a network of 963 food stores under multiple banners, including Metro, Metro Plus, Super C, Food Basics, Adonis and Première Moisson, and 649 drugstores primarily under the Jean Coutu, Brunet, Metro Pharmacy, and Food Basics Pharmacy banners. It opened 10 food stores and 1 drugstore in FY2021 bringing the aggregate store count to 1,612. Metro supplies products to restaurants, non-franchised drugstores, and various health centers. It is also active in generic drug manufacturing through its subsidiary Pro Doc Ltee. The company operates in Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick. Metro is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

In FY2021, Metro added 11 new stores to its network bringing the overall store count to 1,612 stores. The Corporation operates under different grocery banners in the conventional supermarket and discount segments. They operate through 328 supermarkets under the Metro and Metro Plus banners, 237 discount stores operating under the Super C and Food Basics banners which offer products at low prices to consumers, the Adonis banner, which currently has 15 stores specializes in fresh products as well as the Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern products. The Corporation also operates Première Moisson, a banner specializing in premium quality artisan bakery, pastry, and deli products, selling its products to the Corporation’s stores, restaurants, and other chains as well as directly to consumers in its 23 stores.

Metro also acts as franchisor and distributor for 418 PJC Jean Coutu, PJC Health and PJC Health & Beauty drugstores and 157 Brunet Plus, Brunet, Brunet Clinique, and Clini Plus drugstores, held by pharmacist owners in the end of FY2021. The Corporation operates 74 drugstores in Ontario under Metro Pharmacy and Food Basics Pharmacy banners.

In FY2018, Metro acquired The Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc. a Canadian pharmacy retailer. This helped Metro expand its drugstore count from 256 stores in FY2017 to 659 stores at the end of FY2018 bringing the total store count to 1,606 stores YoY. The synergies resulted in increased sales numbers of Metro in FY2018.

Sales for FY2021 totaled $18,283 million, up by 1.6% compared to FY2020 YoY due to strong sales in the year because of the pandemic. Food same-store sales were up by 1.5%, online food sales were up by 60% and Pharmacy same-store sales were up by 3.4% YoY due to an increase in prescription drugs sales.
