Apple launched its first iPhone in January 2007, which combined the mobile phone, an Internet communications device, and a widescreen iPod with touch controls into a handheld device. iPhone was coupled with the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, which enabled users to purchase and download songs and albums onto their iPhones. Apple sold over 1.4 million iPhones resulting in a revenue of $630 million, in 2007.

Although Apple has diversified its product line, iPhone remains to be the money maker for Apple. In 2021, Apple generated $192 billion in revenue from the sales of iPhones, an increase of nearly 40% as compared to the revenue of $137 billion in 2020.

Apple reports its revenue on geographic basis namely: Americas, Europe, Greater China, Japan and the Rest of Asia Pacific, iPhone sales over the recent years has been the driving force for Apple’s revenue from these geographic regions.

Since 2007, Apple has launched over 34 models of iPhone till date. In the year 2021, Apple had launched iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, whereas, in 2020 Apple released the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
