Billings include all gross amounts billed or billable to clients in relation to commission-based and fee-based income, whether acting as agent or principal, as well as the sum of other fees earned, in addition to any instances in which the Group has paid third parties on behalf of customers and are stated exclusive of VAT and sales taxes. This is a non-statutory number and is unaudited.
Costs incurred on behalf of clients with whom they work as an agent and timing discrepancies, wherein invoicing takes place before or after the relevant income is recognised, represent the difference between billings and revenue.
M&C Saatchi Group gross billing rose from EUR 454.5 million in FY2020 to EUR533.35 million in FY2021, an increase of 17.35%. Gross billings for the business increased by EUR78.85 million from 2020 to 2021, driven by the Group's increasing profitability, and net revenue totaled EUR249.3 million. The rise in billings issued in the last quarter of 2021, which were collected after December 31, 2021, and the agreed-upon deferral of payments of EUR14.5 million from 2020 to 2021 (supplier invoices, UK VAT, UK rent, and UK furlough) were the primary factors driving the swing in working capital.
