In the LTM period, May 2022 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $24,197.9 million, resulting in an average deal value of $526.0 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of November 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 72 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $182.9 million during that month.
Of the 1,320 deals, the deal secured between Philip Morris International Inc and Swedish Match AB, was the largest M&A deal in the Global Consumer sector, which was valued at $17,326.9 million and was completed on May 11, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Central Group Co Ltd; SIGNA Holding GmbH and Selfridges & Co, while the third-largest deal was between Cargill Inc; Continental Grain Co and Sanderson Farms Inc. The Central Group Co Ltd; SIGNA Holding GmbH-Selfridges & Co deal and the Cargill Inc; Continental Grain Co-Sanderson Farms Inc deal were valued at $5,322.0 million and $4,530.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Pershing Square Tontine Holdings Ltd-Universal Music Group Inc valued at $4,000.0 million, whereas the deal between AustralianSuper Pty Ltd; Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan-Greencross Ltd valued at $3,500.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $34,678.9 million and accounted for nearly 24.57% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. By region, North America accounted for 40.12% of the total M&A deals done globally, and recorded a total deal value of $54,767.6 million, which accounted for 30.33% of the total deal size on a global scale.
