Total GHG emissions (Scope 1 & 2) of Tyson Foods in 2021 were 5.79 million tonnes CO2 equivalents (MtCO2eq), a decrease of 5% from 2020. The food company aims to achieve net-zero GHG emissions across its global operations and supply chain by 2050.

GHG emissions are generally classified into Scope 1,2 & 3 emissions. Scope 1 includes direct GHG emissions from energy generated from fossil fuels and refrigerants. Scope 2 encompasses indirect GHG emissions from the on-site generation and purchase of electricity. Scope 3 emission is not disclosed by Tyson Foods in its sustainability report.

Scope 1 emissions form the major portion of Tyson Foods’s total GHG emissions, accounting for around 66% of total GHG emissions, while Scope 2 accounted for around 34% of the total GHG emissions in 2021. Tyson Foods’s Scope 1 emissions decreased by about 2% to 3.83 MtCO2eq in 2021.
