COVID-19 Confirmed Deaths in the United States by State, as of June 6, 2022

  • On June 6, 2022, the state of California recorded the most number of deaths (91,502) in the US due to COVID-19
  • Social behavior, international travel, poverty, and weak immunity contributed to the spread of the coronavirus
  • Many cities imposed lockdown and restricted internal movement to prevent the spread of the coronavirus

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease a pandemic on March 11, 2020 and designated the disease as “COVID-19”. The disease caused severe respiratory illness throughout the world, as of March 2020. Millions of people lost their jobs, and macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, employment, and inflation for each country were affected. As of June 6, 2022, more than six million deaths were reported globally on account of COVID-19. COVID-19 is a highly contagious respiratory disease that spreads quicker than common flu. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the economy of various countries, with the US being the most affected. The pandemic claimed the lives of more than a million people in the US.

Factors such as social behavior, international travel and immigration, poverty, and weak immunity of the population contributed to the spread of COVID-19 in the US. The mutation of the coronavirus, vulnerability of the population, and social gatherings also contributed to the spread of the disease in the community.

COVID-19 had a devastating effect in most states in the US, especially California. On June 6, 2022, California recorded  91,502 COVID-19 related deaths. On the same day, New York, Georgia, New Jersey, and North Carolina reported more than 69,000, 38,000, 33,000, and 24,000 deaths, respectively.

Initially, many people died of COVID-19 as it was a new disease and difficult to diagnose. Moreover, health authorities did not have a viable treatment for the disease. Most people died of COVID-19 as they could not get treatment in time. There were also many instances where people died at their homes and not in hospitals. Such cases make it difficult to determine the exact number of deaths due to COVID-19.

Many states such as Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, and New York educated their residents on the importance of wearing face masks, sanitization, cleanliness, and maintaining social distance. Health officials in various cities ensured that people participated in vaccination drives and benefited from the efficacy of vaccines. The authorities also imposed lockdowns and restricted internal movement to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
