Green Mine in Sichuan, was the largest surface mine in China, producing approximately 62.24 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Green Mine is owned by Sichuan Lomon Corp. The second largest surface mine with an estimated 33.63 mmtpa of ROM, was the Heidaigou Mine located in Inner Mongolia. The Heidaigou Mine is owned by China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd;China Cinda Asset Management Co Ltd, and is due to operate until 2031.
Huolinhe Coal Mine located in Inner Mongolia was the third-largest mine, the Yangquan Coal Complex located in Shanxi was the fourth-largest mine, and the Shengli Mines located in Inner Mongolia was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated ROM production of 27.3 mmtpa, 26.55 mmtpa and 26.5 mmtpa, respectively, in 2021. The Huolinhe Coal Mine is owned by Inner Mongolia Dian Tou Energy Corp Ltd, the Yangquan Coal Complex is owned by Jinneng Holding Group Co Ltd and the Shengli Mines is owned by Xilingele League State Assets Management Company;China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd;Northern Electric Power Company.
The five largest surface mines, i.e., Green Mine, Heidaigou Mine, Huolinhe Coal Mine, Yangquan Coal Complex, and Shengli Mines, cumulatively produced approximately 176.22 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
