  • Mount Isa Zinc Mine in Queensland, Australia, was the largest lead-producing mine in the world, producing approximately 132.9 thousand tonnes of lead and an estimated 8.14 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Mount Isa Zinc Mine is owned by Glencore Plc, and is due to operate until 2029. The second largest lead-producing mine with an estimated lead production of 122.4 thousand tonnes and an estimated 1.09 mmtpa of ROM, was the Castellanos Project located in Pinar del Rio, Australia. The Castellanos Project is owned by GeoMinera S.A, and is due to operate until 2039.

  • Cannington Mine located in Queensland, Australia was the third-largest mine, the Plovdiv Mine located in Plovdiv, Bulgaria was the fourth-largest mine, and the Fankou Mine located in Guangdong, China was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated lead production of 114 thousand tonnes, 94 thousand tonnes and 93.1 thousand tonnes, respectively, in 2021. The Cannington Mine, the Plovdiv Mine and the Fankou Mine had an estimated ROM production of 2.82 mmtpa, 2.05 mmtpa and 4.2 mmtpa respectively. The Cannington Mine is owned by South32 Ltd which is due to operate until 2031, the Plovdiv Mine is owned by KCM 2000 Group and the Fankou Mine is owned by Shenzhen Zhongjin Lingnan Nonfemet Co Ltd which is due to operate until 2031.

  • The five largest lead mines, i.e., Mount Isa Zinc Mine, Castellanos Project, Cannington Mine, Plovdiv Mine, and Fankou Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 556.4 thousand tonnes of lead, 18.30 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
