Gumuskoy Mine in Kutahya, Turkey, was the largest silver-producing mine in the world, producing approximately 34.6 million ounces of silver and an estimated 6.41 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Gumuskoy Mine is owned by Yildizlar SSS Holding A.S.. The second largest silver-producing mine with an estimated silver production of 34.5 million ounces and an estimated 35.91 mmtpa of ROM, was the Penasquito Mine located in Zacatecas, Turkey. The Penasquito Mine is owned by Newmont Corp, and is due to operate until 2032.
Mantos Blancos Mine located in Santiago, Chile was the third-largest mine, the Antamina Mine located in Ancash, Peru was the fourth-largest mine, and the Rudna Mine located in Lower Silesian, Poland was the fifth-largest mine, with an estimated silver production of 18.1 million ounces, 17.7 million ounces and 16.6 million ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Mantos Blancos Mine, the Antamina Mine and the Rudna Mine had an estimated ROM production of 6.38 mmtpa, 55.63 mmtpa and 11.87 mmtpa respectively. The Mantos Blancos Mine is owned by Orion Fund JV Limited which is due to operate until 2035, the Antamina Mine is owned by Glencore Plc which is due to operate until 2028 and the Rudna Mine is owned by KGHM Polska Miedz SA which is due to operate until 2035.
The five largest silver mines, i.e., Gumuskoy Mine, Penasquito Mine, Mantos Blancos Mine, Antamina Mine, and Rudna Mine, cumulatively produced approximately 121.5 million ounces of silver, 116.20 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
